For Parents

How this works for you

Your student gets in an accident at Purdue. You're in Texas, California, or wherever. You don't need to fly out. Here's the actual workflow, from accident to keys back in hand:

  1. Your student submits photos through our free online photo estimate. AI returns a real dollar range on screen in 90 seconds. They forward it to you.
  2. We coordinate an in-person confirmation of the estimate. Your student brings the car in (about 10 minutes from campus) so a certified estimator finalizes the written estimate. That written estimate is what goes to your insurance carrier.
  3. We order the parts. Once your insurance approves the estimate, we order everything the repair needs.
  4. Repair starts once all the parts are in. No drop-off-and-wait. The car comes back in when we're actually ready to begin work.
  5. Your student stays mobile during the repair. Rides to and from Purdue campus are on us. If your insurance policy includes rental coverage, we coordinate a loaner directly with the rental company so your student doesn't have to do the paperwork.
  6. We deal with the insurance throughout. Every major U.S. carrier, including out-of-state policies. We talk to adjusters on your behalf so you don't have to.
  7. You can pay the deductible from anywhere. Online, by phone, or split into 3 or 6 monthly payments at 0% if cash flow is tight.

Most Common

The four accidents that happen most to Purdue students

Don't panic. Each of these is routine. Here's the playbook for each.

Parking lot ding, no other driver around

File a no-fault claim with your own insurance under collision coverage. Deductible typically $250-1,000. Our $100 Purdue discount plus the photo estimate helps you decide whether to file the claim or pay out of pocket. Below-deductible damage usually isn't worth filing.

Hit-and-run in a Purdue parking lot

File under uninsured motorist coverage with your own carrier. We coordinate with the adjuster. Police report helps but isn't always required for property damage. Call (765) 448-1100 if you're not sure what to file under.

Winter slip-and-slide on Indiana ice

If you hit a tree, pole, or curb, comprehensive coverage on your policy typically handles single-vehicle weather damage. Usually no fault assigned. If another car was involved, collision coverage handles it. We work both angles with your adjuster.

First fender bender, you're at fault

Liability coverage on your policy handles the other car. Collision coverage handles yours. Your premium may go up at next renewal, but a single at-fault claim usually doesn't cause major hikes. We walk you through the difference between liability and collision when you bring the car in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a Purdue student to use Bob Rohrman?
No. Anyone can use our shop. But if you are a Purdue University student, faculty, staff member, or an immediate family member of one, you automatically qualify for the Purdue benefits: $100 off your repair, free campus pickup and drop-off within 10 miles, class-schedule priority, a free detail on repairs of $500 or more, dedicated out-of-state insurance handling, and a 0% deductible payment plan.
How does the $100 Purdue Student Discount work?
Show us a valid Purdue student, faculty, or staff ID, a confirmation email from your @purdue.edu address, or a Purdue admission or enrollment letter when you bring the car in for the in-person estimate confirmation. We apply $100 off your out-of-pocket portion at the final estimate. That means $100 off your insurance deductible if you're filing a claim, or $100 off the total repair cost if you're paying yourself. The insurance company is always billed the actual repair cost; the $100 reduction comes off your portion only. One discount per repair, cannot be combined with other offers.
Can my parents call you from out of state?
Yes. We routinely work with parents in Texas, California, New York, and every other state. We can be the primary point of contact with your insurance adjuster wherever your policy is based. Parents stay in the loop by text, email, or phone at every step but they don't have to chase the carrier themselves.
Do you offer loaner cars for Purdue students?
It depends on your insurance. If your auto policy includes rental car coverage, we coordinate a loaner directly with the rental company so you don't have to do the paperwork. If your insurance doesn't include rental coverage, we offer free rides to and from Purdue campus during the repair so you can still get to class.
How long does collision repair take?
Varies by damage. A typical bumper or door-panel repair is 5 to 10 business days from the in-person confirmation. Bigger collisions can take 2 to 4 weeks. We don't start the repair until all parts arrive, so the car stays with you in the meantime. Once all parts are in, we schedule you back to drop the car off and begin the work.
What happens after I submit the online photo estimate?
Four things, in order. (1) AI returns a real dollar range on screen in 90 seconds. (2) We coordinate an in-person confirmation visit, about 15 minutes, where a certified estimator finalizes the written estimate that goes to your insurance carrier. (3) Once insurance approves, we order the parts. (4) When all parts arrive, we schedule the repair start so the car only comes back in when we're ready to actually begin work.
What if my car is undriveable?
Call us first at (765) 448-1100. We can dispatch a tow to the right destination and coordinate with your insurance to cover towing if your policy allows. Don't have your car towed somewhere random and then try to move it later; insurance companies are picky about chain of custody on damaged vehicles.
Do I have to use Bob Rohrman because of my insurance?
No. Indiana law lets you choose any body shop. Your insurance company can recommend their preferred shops but cannot require you to use one. We are a Direct Repair Program (DRP) shop for seven major insurers (State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Safeco, Indiana Farm Bureau, Erie, and Auto-Owners), which means we get fast estimate approvals and the work is warrantied through your carrier. We also work with every other major U.S. carrier.
Program terms:
  • One redemption per repair. Cannot be combined with other discount offers.
  • $100 Purdue Student Discount applies to your out-of-pocket portion only and cannot exceed it (if your portion is less than $100, the discount equals your portion).

  • Free detail applies to repairs of $500 or more (pre-tax).
  • Campus pickup & drop-off limited to a 10-mile radius of 3400 National Drive, Lafayette, IN 47905. Outside that radius, coordinated case-by-case.

  • Program subject to change; current terms always on this page.
